FAQs
What is fondant?
First and foremost, fondant is a form of icing used to cover cakes, cupcakes and desserts. Its basic ingredients are sugar and water, which are mixed together to the consistency needed. It can be poured or made into a paste, that can be rolled out and used to cover your cake/cupcakes, or used as a dough to make fondant creations.
Do you make custom toppers?
Absolutely! I love the challenge of making family-friendly custom toppers! Just present me with an idea of your theme and color scheme and I will be happy to create a sketch or two for you to help you visualize the final product.
How far in advance do I need to order?
READY-MADE toppers are premade, available "as is", and are available to ship as early as 2 business days after receiving your paid order.
MADE-TO-ORDER toppers are available to ship as early as 3-4 weeks after receipt of your paid order.
CUSTOM toppers are available to ship as early as 4-6 weeks after receipt of your paid order.
How do you ship my topper order?
I ship via USPS priority mail. I have found this method to be quite dependable and your toppers are delivered within 2-3 business days from the ship date (within the US), and 5-14 business days (internationally).
Is the topper edible?
The toppers are made from edible fondant/gumpaste, so they can be eaten. However, the 3D toppers are recommended for decoration only as they include things such as lollipop sticks, toothpicks, and floral wire are used to help support the internal structure. If you do plan to eat, remove all structural supports prior to eating. NOTE: giraffe horns, palm trees, and other "flexible" toppers include floral wire for support.
How do I place the topper on my cake/cupcake?
- Dab the underside of the topper with a bit of frosting or royal icing
- Press the topper lightly to the iced cake/cupcake.
- NOTE: Apply your toppers to your cake/cupcakes no more than 12-24 hours before serving, as water and icing can soften the fondant
How do I store my topper?
- Keep it protected from things that could bump or crush it
- Keep out of direct sunlight
- Store it in a cool, dry, dark place
- Do NOT freeze or refrigerate
My topper broke, what do I do?
Some designs are a little more fragile than others so some pieces may separate or break. The good news is that they can easily be fixed!
- Lightly brush a very small amount of frosting or royal icing over the broken sections and press them together gently
- NOTE: Water will "melt" fondant, so if you use water to repair be sure to use a very small amount and keep it concentrated on the separated or broken section. Hold the pieces together for a moment and your topper should be fine
My topper has a crack, how do I fix it?
Sometimes cracks appear---don't worry. With your finger, smooth a bit of Crisco or vegetable shortening over the crack; it will fill in the crack and blend right into the color of your topper.
